New Wet Sump Pans for The Toyota JZ Engine Platform

The Toyota JZ platform is easily one of the most popular engine swaps for all types of racing. Its design, power potential, and strength have made it legendary, and now you can purchase race versions of them from Dart Machinery.

But when it comes to oil pan options, you’re limited to the factory cast upper, and either using a stamped lower with an aftermarket baffle, or some type of billet option.

In some cases, that’s not enough. Specifically for a chassis that needs a rear sump. The mid/rear sump pans from the MK4 Supra and SC300 chassis are an option, but because of how close the mid sump gets to a lot of crossmembers, it requires modification of your subframe. Not only that, they can hang a little lower, which can be a problem.

We’re very excited to bring our new 20948 full rear sump race pan to market.

This idea came from speaking with drivers who needed a rear sump pan that puts the sump as far back as possible so it fits better in the car. Think Nissan S-Chassis with a front steer angle kit. Or maybe an E36/E46 BMW.

With the way the sump is located on the pan now, it’s about 2.75” farther back than stock and 1/4” shallower, but still gets 6 qts of oil. Now that’s not including your oil filter or any other oiling system components, so keep that in mind. It’s also no wider than the factory stamped lower.

This sump reduces crossmember cutting significantly.

The pan also features a full road race trap door assembly and sump baffle, perfect for drifting, road racing, drag racing, etc.

The pickup is a high-flow tube, with a large screen and bracing that bolts to the trap door assembly, as well as billet rail of the pan, letting this pan work with stock pumps.

The wrapper of the pan is as low as possible to further assist in chassis clearance, while still being deep enough in the front to accommodate a 3.4-liter stroker kit with steel rods.

The pan has a #10 ORB drain-back fitting for turbos, and a 1/4” NPT dipstick provision.

All of the necessary hardware will be included for ease of installation.

BUT WAIT!!! There’s more…

You didn’t think we’d forget racers with a front sump setup, did you?

The 20947 is our front sump, steel, bolt-on option. It’s meant to be a performance replacement for the stamped lower oil pan while letting you retain the cast aluminum upper.

The pan is built off of a laser-cut steel rail, with sealing and strength being a high priority.

But why steel instead of aluminum? Strength and serviceability. The rear sump tucks higher up, above crossmembers.

The front, depending on what it’s going into, can be a little lower.

Making it out of steel makes the pan stronger and reduces the likelihood of it being damaged.

Also, it being just the lower pan means that installation or removal is much easier.

Once it has left the weld department, it’s brought over to our in-house powder coat shop for a clean black finish.

The dimensions of the pan are based off the factory Lexus GS300 and IS300 (JDM Aristo and Altezza).

Now that means it’s 1” deeper than the factory JZX90 or JZX100 oil pan, but basing it off the GS300 means more oil, more room for baffling, and more room for chassis fitment. So it should clear all the Toyota chassis, and be a great option for swap cars.

Let’s get back to the oil control features of the pan for just a bit.

The pan being 4” deep and having side kick-outs brings the capacity up a full quart over stock. So that’s 6 quarts of oil under the supplied race windage tray.

This doesn’t include your filter or any other oiling system components like an oil cooler or remote filter mount.

The pan features a full diamond-shaped trap door baffle assembly, keeping the provided heavy-duty oil pump pickup submerged in oil under the hardest driving conditions, like DRIFTING.

Rounding out the feature list is a -8AN O-ring drain plug, and this pan will work with your factory dipstick.

We also offer a hardware kit if you’d like to switch over to bullet nose studs.

There you have it. Two new options for the famed Toyota JZ platform to go along with our dry sump pans.

Please stay tuned, as we’re planning on adding more JZ products to our line in the near future.
