General Motors announced the ZZ632 crate engine in late 2021. This gave hot rodders and racers an off-the-shelf, high-horsepower, large-displacement option they could order that runs on pump gas.
That’s great, right? Yes, it is.
However, this engine is based on a GEN 5 or GEN 6 style block, which has a one-piece rear main seal. That means you need an oil pan that fits the block, clears the stroke, delivers performance, and fits the car it’s going into.
That’s where some of our oil pans come into play.
The three oil pans that Doug goes over in the video below give builders options that clear the 4.75” stroke crank, provide excellent oil capacity and control, and offer proper chassis fitment.
The 21051 is the pan you’ll need for your street car. The sump dimensions make it ideal for vehicles with stock crossmembers. At 8” deep, 10.625” wide, and 8.75” front to back, it holds 6 quarts of oil (not including the filter) and, most importantly, provides the clearance needed to fit the ZZ632 in your project car. This makes it a great fit for most popular GM chassis like Camaros, Chevelles, and trucks.
If you’re building something like a ’62–’67 Chevy II or a Tri-Five car, you’ll likely need to inquire about a custom-fit pan. Get in touch with our sales department if that’s the case.
Now, the next two pans are very similar in design and purpose: all-out performance first, chassis fitment second. These are best suited for bracket race cars, Comp Eliminator, Super Gas, and similar applications, so we recommend checking dimensions before placing your order.
They feature:
- 8” depth for increased capacity and billet oil pump fitment
- Sheet metal, louvered windage trays with partitions
- A driver-side kickout in the steel pan, and a double kickout in the aluminum pan
The steel 21051 pan will clear a 4.75” stroke with steel rods and a 4.5” stroke with aluminum rods. It also includes a 1/4” NPT bung for a dipstick and is finished in black powder coat.
The aluminum 20382 features billet front and rear seals, clears a 4.75” stroke with both steel and aluminum rods, and is compatible with our larger gerotor 22167 billet oil pump.
Three options for your brand-new GM ZZ632 crate engine to make it drop-in ready!
